In the 1970's there were import restrictions on goods including toys in Brazil , to get round this components for Matchbox toys were exported from England in kit form and assembled in Brazil .
Matchbox production at Manaus started in approximately 1972.
Identification :- The Lesney era models assembled in Brazil can be identified by inspecting the base of the item.
- The earliest black labels glued to the bases of Brazilian MBs featured the "Roly
Toys" name , clearly showing the connection with the earlier Roly Toys models which
were not Matchbox-based. Soon after the start of MB production the company changed
its name from Roly Toys to Inbrima.
- After the "black label" phase, some models had "FAB ZF MANAUS"
etched into their bases, while at the same time the majority got plastic tabs, which
can be found in white, cream, light blue and black. The changeover from labels to plastic
tabs must have happened around 1976, but there was likely some overlap.
- Later Brazilian MBs have white labels with more Portuguese text glued to their bases.
Those are from about 1980, and some of those are found with Majorette wheels obviously
transferred from the Kiko factory and substituted for the genuine MB wheels, which they
may have run out of by that time.
Some of the models were produced in identical colour schemes to their English counterparts whilst others were very different

Boxes
Lesney Brazil models are very hard to find these days complete with their boxes , unlike the UK products , the Brazillian models were often sold in generic boxes with the number of the model stamped or attached with a sticker to the end flap , all the Matchbox Brazil boxes shown below only have the model number on the End flap and have Potuguese Trademark printing .
