Matchbox models were produced in Hungary for just one year - 1987 , at a facility just outside Budapest , only ten different castings were used , each finished in a variety of colours.
The ten models used were :- VW Camper , Police Patrol , Ford Cortina (#25) , AMX Javelin, Mercedes 230SL, Rolls Royce Silver Shadow , BMW 3.0 , Ford GT , Jeep CJ6 and Citroen SM.
The bases of the models were changed to read "Made in Hungary".
The quality of finish on the models was excellent , unfortunately the same cannot be said of the packaging which was flimsy at best.
A whole host of colour variations were issued including different body colours , interiors and bases.
Two different blister cards were available , the reason for this is unknown.
The retail price was the equivalent of 1 GBP each and on my visit to Budapest I found examples on sale at small shops , street kiosks and some underground stations, all the castings appeared to be in equal supply.
