2001 Acacia Ridge Yard Derailment.

In the early hours of the morning on Thursday 28th June 2001, locomotive 2839 was hit and dragged some distance by a container wagon, which had derailed, in the siding running beside the track on which it was stabled. The Acacia Ridge Q1 shunt pulled out of esterban 3 with a string of container wagons. Unfortunately, after they had begun this move they were told to push back into the siding to allow the National Rail Shunt to traverse esterban 2. While pushing back, the Q1 shunt pushed the last wagon on the string, (BAZY 47539), over a mound of dirt placed at the end of esterban 3, thus pushing past the points that link esterban 3 and esterban 4. When the Q1 shunt pulled out of esterban 3, BAZY 47539 split the points leaving the rear bogie traveling on esterban 4 and the front bogie traveling on esterban 3. Unfortunately locomotive 2839 was stabled on esterban 4. BAZY 47539 collided with locomotive 2839 and dragged it some distance down esterban 4 as the graphics below indicate.
