1983 Derailment Kajabbi Branch.

In 1983 a ballast train derailed while heading for Kajabbi (north of Cloncurry Qld.). The ballast hopper second in front of the plow derailed causing the following hopper, then the plow to derail. The plow in turn picked up the rails, one of which speared the van. While derailed the van lost it's bogies in the creek and turned on it's side as it was dragged across a bridge. When the van hit the other side of the creek it turned right way up as the train broke in two. The Guard and seven Navies riding in the van escaped with minor injuries.
